More for the horde

Finished 3 infected the other day. The figure on the right started as a Heroclix Adaptoid. I added some pants with green stuff and the busted up jaw with the tongue sticking out.

Conversions! A top 5 list.

I've been trying to build up a big horde of zombies (as cheaply as possible). I love the clix figures because they're plastic and easier to cut apart and glue together. Green stuff sticks to them pretty well too. I've bought a bunch of clix figures and have managed to keep the average to around 60¢ to 75¢ per figure (I bought a case a few years back and it averaged out to about 25¢ a figure after I sold the ones I didn't want on ebay). Anyway, here are my top 5 figures for converting.

Number 5:

Hal Jordan Heroclix.
A new paint job and a head swap with a Horrorclix Hard Hat Zombie and you've got some city workers that hunger for flesh. Why yes that is reflective tape on the figures. I was hoping it would flare up in the photos but so far nothing. :(

Number 4:

Flasher Horrorclix.
This one has LOTS of grabby hands (and a couple arms) that can be used in MANY, MANY ways.
See Number 3 below for a good example.


Number 3:

Insect Man Horrorclix.
This one is a pretty good base figure, you just need a head (maybe from the flasher?) and a left arm (definitely from the flasher), then again, maybe you don't really NEED a left arm. Maybe you just need something hanging from where the arm USED to be. Eh? Huh?
Most of these guys have the Pod Zombie Horrorclix head attached to them.
Also, I shaved off the ankle cuff on most of mine.

Number 2:

Hulk Heroclix.

I remember grabbing a bunch of these as promo pieces when the first movie came out. My idea back then was to turn them into Ogres for use in Blood Bowl. I did that.

Then sold them on ebay.

Years later I would see them as part of the Left 4 Dead Tank. So, I made these guys. With the torso of the Giant Horrorclix figure.

Also, you can use the arm from the Hulk as the left arm for the Insect Man and you've got yourself a Left 4 Dead charger.

 Notice the Chargers heads? Yep, those are flasher heads, one sans mohawk.

And last but not least...

Number 1:

Project Superman Heroclix.

I find this one to be a great base for making lots of different figures. Swap heads and get creative with the green stuff.

And a few more that I've finished. I figure lots of people will be caught off guard during a zombie attack so you need a few in various states of undress.

CVS and Chiberia

It's cold. I had a dentist appointment today and I was running early (which almost never happens to me), so I stopped into a nearby CVS Pharmacy to warm up. I wandered around for a bit and found myself in the clearance aisle. I spotted this:

The price was marked as $19.99, which is (in my opinion) WAY to high for this set. I looked it over and laughed. There were maybe 5 or 6 things that I could use and I thought "No way am I going to spend $20 on this."
Then I noticed the signs nearby. 50% of New Years Eve Items and 90% off Christmas. Was this set Christmas? I snatched it back up and looked around. Hmmmm... gotta check this out. 90% off would be like $2.00. I would pay $2.00 for the boxes, barriers, barrels and gas cans in the set. I wandered up to the checkout, ignoring the funny looks I always seem to get when I buy toys, and asked the cashier if she could price check it for me. $1.99.
I said "I'll take it."

 I included a heroclix mini for scale.
The little guard house is tiny but with a little work I can turn it into a useable gate.

Not bad for $1.99
Plus, I figure I can sell the vehicles on ebay. Maybe there's somebody out there looking for some military stuff for an HO train layout.

2014

If all goes well, I'm going to be a father in 2014. I can't wait!
It will, most likely, mean that I'll have less time in the studio but I suppose I can cross that bridge when I get to it. In the meantime, I have lots to do around the condo to get it "finished" because at some point the place will be too small for us. So, I have to make the place presentable for the inevitable selling.

I will be trying to force myself to post monthly this year. 12 substantial posts shouldn't be too hard. I just need to remember my camera when I go to work at the studio. Maybe that can be a New Years resolution?

Sidewalks

Finally getting around to a rant (as promised). This one is fitting because I'm currently working out some ideas on how to make sidewalks for the game.

So, on to the rant.

Sidewalks. I am so sick of the mouth breathing ignorants that shamble around mindlessly on the sidewalks. "Hey everybody look at me, I'm on the right side, now the left, now the middle, now I'm going to look left but go right. Ugh. Pick a side and stick with it.
Some of us actually have places to go.
We, as pedestrians, are given our very own space and somehow it's not good enough for a percentage of people. "I think i'll just walk out in the middle of street and hope the cars stop for me."  C'mon.
My new favorite is waiting for the WALK sign by standing IN the road.

Wouldn't the sidewalks be much easier if everyone treated them like tiny little roads?
Here in the U.S. we drive on the right side. So, Howsabout we try walking on the right side too.

Where are you, you spongy, yellow, delicious bastards?

I grabbed a yellow Hummer the other day while out running errands, and it dawned on me that something was missing. Dale Earnhardt's number 3 of course. Now I just need to grab some good Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita & Little Rock figures.
